Two young siblings, discovered in tragic circumstances, have now been placed into temporary care with strangers.
The boy, six, and girl, four, from Nanjing, eastern China, were discovered by locals while locked in a cage with dogs.

Initial reports suggested the siblings were actually living in the cage, causing widespread outrage on Chinese social media.
But authorities have since confirmed that the grandfather locked them in the cage when he went out to ensure that the children would not go missing.
The children were born out of wedlock and abandoned by their mother two years ago. Their grandfather became their main guardian because their father goes away to work.
The family, who struggle to make ends meet, are believed to live in a shed next to the dog cage.
Local authorities have placed the siblings into a temporary home until the family can find better accommodation for the children.
